Elected Group Chair
George Barnes, Energy and Sustainability Consultant, JRP Solutions
George is an Energy and Sustainability Consultant at JRP Solutions, with key skills in energy management systems, engineering solutions and embedding culture change. George’s current projects include co-ordinating the implementation of an ISO 50001 energy management system for a global telecommunications provider and launching a similar journey for a large meat processor.
Having managed and Lead Assessed over 30 ESOS audits for a range of large manufacturing, telecommunications, utilities and healthcare sector clients, amongst many others, George is no stranger to getting his hands dirty on the factory floor and is equally at home surveying steam boilers as he is creating Net Zero plans.
George has been working alongside the previous chair of the Group, Jes Rutter, to support the EnCO initiative and is committed to promoting behaviour change as an integral and critical part of an organisation’s road to Net Zero.
Shortlisted for the Edie 2020 Rising Sustainability Star award, George is passionate about using his drive and ambition to effect real change to reduce organisations’ energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. He hopes to carry this early achievement through to the rest of his professional career, pushing boundaries and facilitating meaningful change to minimise the impact we all have on the world around us.

Appointed Vice Chair
Sue Spilsbury, Director, Carbon Decoded
Sue is Director of Carbon Decoded, an independent consultancy set up in 2013, and has been in the energy industry for 20 years, working for Local Authorities, Planning Consultancies, and major Energy Suppliers. Describing herself as a non-technical Energy Manager, as her background is in Environmental Science and Energy Efficient Building Design, rather than engineering, she specialises in behaviour and culture change and is an ISO50001 Lead Auditor, Certified Measurement and Verification Professional and has qualified as one of ESTA’s new EnCo Consultants. Sue has been a trainer for nearly 40 years, training for Barclays, the BRE, RBIA and MEUC and many large clients. Sue specialises in bespoke support for individual businesses; with a sleeves-rolled-up approach she works alongside teams, at all levels, to help them develop a clear understanding of business energy utilization and compliance obligations such as SECR, ESOS and managing CCAs; her success lies in building relationships and investing in developing key individuals and teams to ensure an ongoing engagement and business commitment to planned energy and carbon emission reduction. She currently works across Construction, Manufacturing, Administration and Facilities Management industries, but also has vast experience in Education and the Public Sector. The Independent Energy Consultants Group (IECG)
IECG members provide the expertise to assist organisations with all aspects of energy procurement, management, standards and legal compliance.
They have no exclusive commercial relationships with any utility or equipment suppliers and therefore provide the best independent advice.

IECG aims to become the UK’s largest independent Energy Consultancy collective, providing best practice services and advice to energy consumers and furthering the implementation of company-wide energy strategies. Currently, the group has 23 members ranging from sole traders to multi-national organisations.
Members are expected to support and promote the aims of the IECG.
IECG members are encouraged to collaborate with others in the Association with a view to complementing each other’s business.
Members’ involvement with outside organisations, associations and societies whose aims are reduction in energy consumption is actively encouraged.
The group Chairman is charged with the task of monitoring the progress of the set targets and reporting back to group members and ESTA Council at the earliest opportunity.
